Tottenham need to pay a ‘remarkable’ €40m if they wish to sign Alessandro Buongiorno from Torino this summer, after making contact this week.

That’s according to Corriere dello Sport, who cover Tottenham’s interest today after a report earlier this week indicated they had already opened talks to try and find out how much he’d cost.

The newspaper follows that up today and explain that Napoli are pushing to sign the defender as they plan for a big summer of change following a disappointing campaign.

Contact is already underway, but they know they face competition for the player, who has been earning rave reviews for his performances at Torino this season.

They’ve initiated talks with their fellow Italians about a transfer and been told in no uncertain terms that they expect €40m, a figure the newspaper labels as ‘remarkable’.

That would presumably be the figure that they are quoting Tottenham as well, with Serie A sides always keen to take advantage of the wealth in the Premier League if they can.

Whether Tottenham are willing to pay such a price after already spending on Radu Dragusin in the January transfer window remains to be seen.

After opening talks this week to find out a potential price, though, now they’ve been given one, even if it is ‘remarkable’.
