Chelsea goalkeeper Édouard Mendy lost the No.1 spot to Kepa Arrizabalaga this season. The Spaniard hasn’t been convincing and the situation with the duo has seen the English club look for a new stopper.
Last week, Gazzetta dello Sport reported the Blues have every intention to make an approach for André Onana and are in the front row to sign the Inter Milan goalkeeper.
Italian journalist Niccolò Ceccarini, writing in his column for TuttoMercatoWeb, states Chelsea could make a ‘concrete attempt’ to sign 27-year-old in the summer.
Ceccarini claims qualifying for the Champions League next season is essential for their future and also for their summer business. They face AC Milan in the semi-final of the competition and are currently fourth in the table, two points ahead of the Rossoneri.
Inter will have to resist offers they will receive for some of their players, including the Cameroonian. He’s wanted by Chelsea, who are ‘ready’ to make an offer to acquire the former Ajax man’s services.
Their idea is to offer €40m and Ceccarini states a proposal in this region could make Inter ‘falter’.
Onana joined Inter for free last summer and has impressed in his debut season in Italy. He’s kept 17 clean sheets and conceded 30 goals from 36 games.
