Clearly unwanted at Chelsea for some time, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears close to finally leaving Stamford Bridge.

The team ready to welcome him are Marseille in Ligue 1, now managed by Marcelino, who wants a new forward in his team.

This comes courtesy of L’Equipe, who recall how close the French side were to signing Ilimane Ndiaye from Sheffield United, before the Senegal international changed his mind and decided to stay put.

That’s why they have now turned their attention to the Chelsea outcast, who could even leave on a free to facilitate a deal.

L’Equipe explain the Gabon international is ‘close’ to moving to the south of France, and the whole affair is ‘moving along nicely’.

It’s said Marseille are ‘optimistic’ about signing Aubameyang, and ‘exchanges are continuing’ with him regarding a potential three-year contract for the 34-year-old.

Right now, the forward is talking to Chelsea to sort out his situation at Stamford Bridge, and ‘negotiations’ are underway between his entourage and the Blues.

It’s said the Premier League club are ‘not asking for a fee’ and could even ‘terminate the contract to the player’s advantage’.

This something Marseille are obviously hoping for, who managed to get a similar agreement in place last year when they signed Alexis Sánchez when he left Inter Milan with a few extra million in his pocket, which allowed the French side to offer lower wages, since he had already been somewhat compensated by the Serie A club.
