In the middle of a mass clear-out, Chelsea will need to bring in a midfielder or two to give Mauricio Pochettino the tools he needs to succeed.
The latest avenue appears to be Sergej Milinković-Savić, who is now in the final year of his contract at Lazio and seems destined for an exit.
Chelsea’s interest in the player comes from Il Tempo on Tuesday, who look at what the future could hold for the Serbian, who is causing the Serie A side a bit of a headache.
His agent, Mateja Kezman, is doing his best to find his client a landing spot, and the Italian newspaper claim he has offered the midfielder to ‘half of Europe’.
Claudio Lotito, Lazio’s president, is still hoping for a fee of €40m for his star, but he has made it clear that he ‘won’t go below €30m’.
This is where Chelsea come in, as Kezman approached his former club, and it’s said the Blues ‘have shown interest’, but are currently pursuing ‘other negotiations’.
That doesn’t mean they won’t come back for the player, but Il Tempo point out the current situation surrounding Milinković-Savić is ‘driving his fans crazy’.
Unfortunately, with the prospect of a free transfer next year, few clubs are willing to commit a lot of money on the 28-year-old, but if there is one side who could spend a chunk of cash on him, it’s probably Chelsea.
