Back on Friday, we covered a report in Germany about Schalke 04’s desire to bring back Burnley’s Darko Churlinov.

It was stated that a renewed effort would make everyone happy in Gelsenkirchen, but whether it was a good idea was up for debate.

Well, that hasn’t stopped the 2.Bundesliga side from trying, as Dirk Schlarmann took to X on behalf of Sky Germany to bring the latest information on the situation surrounding the Burnley forward.

According to him, contact between the Clarets and their German counterparts ‘is close’, but there is ‘no breakthrough yet’.

Therefore, something appears to be being worked on behind the scenes for the 23-year-old, who has yet to make an appearance for Burnley this season.

It’s worth recalling that prior to his move to Turf Moor, Churlinov had endeared himself to Schalke fans on loan from VfB Stuttgart, making 23 appearances for the club, scoring two goals and assisting another six.

That form never translated at Burnley, where he has only played 13 games and saw a summer exit blocked by him becoming ill with blood poisoning.
