Brighton & Hove Albion signed James Furlong from Shamrock Rovers in 2019 and included him in their academy.
The left-back has made only one appearance for the Seagulls’ first team and it came in their ELF Cup win over Forest Green Rovers in August 2022. Furlong spent the second half of last season on loan at Motherwell, featuring 16 times for the Scottish club.
Legia Warszawa have shown interest in the Brighton youngster, according to Meczyki.pl journalist Tomasz Włodarczyk. He made this claim on Meczyki.pl’s YouTube program, Okno Transferowe, relayed by Transfery.info.
Włodarczyk claims the Polish club are looking for a new left-back in the market and have identified the 21-year-old as their priority target.
Earlier claims from elsewhere had stated Legia Warszawa have tabled multiple bids to sign the Republic of Ireland U21 international. The Polish journalist has now backed it up and then provides more updates on this case.
“There have already been two, if not more, offers and this is confirmed. Legia are actually trying to get this player, while Brighton are not entirely willing to sell him,” he said.
Włodarczyk adds Legia aren’t interested in taking Furlong on a loan deal and also explains why it’s best for Brighton to part ways with him.
“At Brighton, he has absolutely no chance of playing, but he is young, he plays for the Irish national team, so there are reasons to think that the guy has reasons to play more,” Włodarczyk explained.
