Brighton and Hove Albion are not the only side interested in Cologne star Jakub Kaminski, with his exit this summer ‘looking increasingly likely’.
BILD report that several Premier League sides are keen on the 24-year-old and have made their interest in him clear.
The newspaper explains that, while the focus is on Said El Mala, Jakub Kaminski also has a growing list of suitors.
He was one of the other stars at Cologne this year, bagging seven goals and five assists in 34 games in the Bundesliga across the campaign.
Brighton transfer chance
Cologne have already signed him permanently for €5.5m, but the winger has a €20m release clause in that deal and has made it clear he wants to play in the Premier League.
“It depends on what options arise, whether I’m happy with them, and whether it represents a step forward for me,” he is quoted as saying.
“I’m currently a player for 1. FC Köln and I still have four years left on my contract. If the opportunity arises to take a step forward, it goes without saying that every footballer would want to take that step.
“Sometimes such opportunities only come around once in a lifetime. Playing in the Bundesliga has always been my dream. But after 104 games and four seasons, the Premier League is the next dream. It is the best league in the world. I would love to prove myself there.”
Brighton lead race
Brighton are the first to have deposited an interest. Sport Witness covered a report last weekend that stated they had turned their attention to Jakub Kaminski after moving away from Said El Mala.
BILD now add that they’re not the only English suitors, though. Several teams from England’s top flight have ‘expressed their interest’ in the player.
Cologne’s sporting director Thomas Kessler is aware of the interest. He’s also aware of the player’s intentions and in close contact with his agency. As a result, Kaminski’s departure is looking increasingly likely.
That would be a bitter blow on the pitch, but a massive financial aid off it. Cologne have been caught off guard by Said El Mala’s refusal to join Brentford in a €50m deal. A €20m deal for Kaminski, and an immediate profit, would help soften the blow.
Brighton are currently the frontrunners but they’re not the only ones who are keen.
