Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moisés Caicedo knows there will be at least three teams in for him in the summer after Arsenal’s efforts to sign him in the January transfer window.
The Gunners were heavily linked with the Ecuadorian midfielder throughout last month, making several big bids to Brighton to sign and get a deal over the line.
Brighton refused each one, remaining determined not to lose of their key players late in the window despite Arsenal offering them huge figures and a huge profit.
Arsenal eventually decide to sign Jorginho in a cut price deal from rivals Chelsea, but the Italian has only signed an 18 month deal and it is felt they will return for Caicedo in future.
The Brighton man has made it clear that he wants to depart, even going as far to make his wishes clear on social media in a heavily criticised post.
Tera Deportes cover that situation today and explain that three teams ‘looked at’ signing Caicedo in January but after ‘several negotiations’ none of them paid what Brighton were asking for. Arsenal were likely one of them.
When Caicedo published on social media the Seagulls did not punish him, nor did they suspend him and there was no ‘rebellion’ from the player.
Instead, he was given a leave of absence until after the window so that he can think about his situation and ‘make the best decision’.
Brighton also made it clear that clubs will pay what he is worth in the summer, despite his agents being determined to ‘take advantage of the opportunity’ presented to them by the likes of Arsenal.
They are likely to be back in the summer transfer window and Caicedo ‘knows’ that there are three confirmed teams that ‘will bid’ for him at the end of the season.
Brighton, meanwhile, know that they ‘have no choice but to sell him’, setting up another potential saga after the one last month.
