Rafael Benitez was shown the door at Everton in January of this year and is still available on the managerial market.
Since he left Goodison Park, the Spaniard has given multiple interviews, also speaking at various events, and has made several hints towards the issues he believes he faced at Everton.
This isn’t unusual for the manager. His successful era with Valencia came to an end after he fell out with those in charge at the club, saying he wasn’t getting what he’d requested in the transfer market.
That saw him take up the Liverpool job, and some comments he made during his time there were brought up when he arrived at Everton. It was always going to be a tough job, yet Benitez didn’t do himself many favours and it was no surprise when he finally left the Toffees.
Speaking over the weekend at a Juventus hosted conference, Benitez was asked if he’d like to return to Italian football for his first job since Everton.
DAZN Italy quote the manager as saying: “Yes, I’d like to work in a team that can compete for something. The difficulty is this: if you join a team and you don’t have the money, you have to have the right project, the right mentality and you have to use your experience. You have to work with the youth, with the players you have. We can use the experience to find a balance between the market and cultivate young players.”
