Ramón Sosa may have left England with limited opportunities, but the Paraguayan winger arrives at Palmeiras full of motivation and with strong backing from both fans and teammates.

Right after signing, as we reported, Sosa showed clear excitement about his move, and those who followed his time at Nottingham Forest believe he deserved more chances in the Premier League.

Despite making 23 appearances for Forest, Sosa started only four matches, recording three goals and one assist during his nine-month spell. The lack of minutes raised questions among Palmeiras fans, but English observers offered a different view.

“There’s no resentment at Forest, and he might’ve even stayed for another year,” said Lee Clarke from Nottingham Forest News, in an interview for Brazilian newspaper Globo Esporte. “But he wants to establish himself as a starter for the Paraguay national team, and staying on our bench wouldn’t help.”

Sosa arrived at Forest with high expectations but struggled to earn manager Nuno Espírito Santo’s trust. “Even though he was always smiling, it was clear from early on that the coach didn’t see him as a starter,” Clarke explained.

Still, when Sosa played longer stretches, he delivered. He scored against Luton Town and Exeter City, and grabbed an equaliser off the bench against Brighton. “He brought energy every time he came on,” said Adam Wiklo from Red Side of the Trent, in that same interview. “It felt unfair. He always looked eager to make something happen.”

Wiklo noted that Sosa mainly played on the left wing in England, cutting inside on his right foot – a role that suited his more technical than physical profile.

Now at Palmeiras on a five-year deal, Sosa is settling into life in Brazil and could debut as early as Wednesday against Mirassol. Talking to the press while preparing for the match, as covered by Versus Paraguay, club captain Gustavo Gómez said Sosa appeared genuinely happy and was warmly welcomed by club.

“It’s the first time I’ve had a Paraguayan teammate here, and I’m very happy about it,” Gómez told Palmeiras TV. He added that Sosa is not only a quality player, but “an even better person,” which he sees as essential at the club.

Sosa admitted that Gómez was instrumental in his decision, having described Palmeiras and the challenges that lie ahead.

With backing from the fans who followed him in England and the support of a respected teammate, Sosa now has the platform to relaunch his career in South America.
