Nottingham Forest’s sale of Carlos Miguel to Brazil is finally back on track after a brief standstill.
According to Globo Esporte, the move stalled over the weekend when news of the agreement leaked, creating discomfort and prompting late tweaks to the contract terms. Those differences have now been ironed out following a meeting on Monday, clearing the way for the deal to be signed.
The 27-year-old is now expected in Brazil by the weekend for medicals and to sign a five-year deal running until 2030. Forest will pocket around €4m plus performance-based bonuses for appearances, Brazil call-ups and even a potential spot at the 2026 World Cup.
After the meeting, positive reactions in Brazil quickly followed. Two well-known voices in the country’s football media – commentator Ana Thaís Mattos and former Palmeiras legendary goalkeeper Velloso – shared their thoughts on the deal, both seeing the agreement as a significant move for the club.
“Good signing! Football is so generous it’s giving him another chance to play at a club that will offer all the structure he needs” said Ana Thaís, pointing out the contrast between his move to Europe and his return home. “He went from the ‘dream’ of playing in Europe to return as a star to the Brazilian market.”
Velloso, a Palmeiras icon in the 1990s, highlighted the goalkeeper’s quality. “He has huge potential, and we finally saw the board act fast,” he said. “If I had the pen, he would be my pick for the spot. I’m glad Palmeiras went in and got it done.”
The green light from Forest has been there for a while, especially with Carlos Miguel firmly out of Nuno Espírito Santo’s plans. With Edu Gaspar now in the club’s front office, the go-ahead for his release was never going to be a problem.
After a few days of drama, a little tension and an unwanted leak, it looks like this one’s now wrapped up.
