Argentina’s third place for an over 23 player in their squad for the Olympics has been reserved for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez, if the club allow him to go to Paris.
That’s according to journalist Gonzalo Bonadeo, who reports that Martinez will take up the third space if Aston Villa allow him to do so.
The goalkeeper has made it clear for months that he would like to compete at the Olympics in Paris this summer, with a report earlier this month stating that he had come to an agreement on the matter with those in charge at Aston Villa.
Argentina, who will be led by Javier Mascherano, have since been finalising their plans for the tournament, and the three over 23 players they will be taking with them.
According to reports, two of those spaces will be taken by Julián Álvarez and Nicolás Otamendi, who have both agreed to take part and found an agreement with their clubs too.
Now it remains to be seen who will take the third slot, although according to Bonadeo, it will be reserved for the Aston Villa star.
“Enzo Fernández enters as a minor under 23 years of age and third place goes to Dibu Martínez,” Aire Digital report him saying on the “Ahora Vengo” show with Luis Mino.
“(It) depends on Aston Villa and it is also one of the positions that would not influence playing the Copa America and the Olympic Games.”
