Despite claims that Inter Milan are close to signing Yann Sommer from Bayern Munich to replace André Onana, Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez is now thrown into the mix by Corriere dello Sport.
The Italian newspaper cover the goalkeeper situation at the Serie A side these days, and do corroborate the idea that the Switzerland international is the favourite to take over from their old star.
However, they are also keeping an eye on alternatives, which is where the Aston Villa player comes in.
It’s said that ‘some intermediaries’ would have come forward and ‘offered’ the World Cup winner to Inter, who would be ‘interested in a more prestigious stage’.
The Aston Villa goalkeeper would also be able to team up with Lisandro Martínez there, and this is an option that Inter have ‘not closed the door on’.
However, they would only do so ‘under the right conditions’, because if the Villans were to ask for ‘around €30m’, then that would not be possible.
Still, there is a belief that this could be a move to try and convince Bayern Munich to act a little bit faster in releasing Yann Sommer for a transfer.
One to keep an eye on.
