Aston Villa suddenly show up today in the race for Atletico Madrid star João Félix.
The news comes from Spanish newspaper Marca, who claim Unai Emery’s side are actually ‘very well positioned’ in the tussle for the 23-year-old.
It’s said Aston Villa are ‘already negotiating’ with Atletico Madrid chief Miguel Angel Gil Marin for the transfer.
João Félix has been heavily linked with an exit from the Colchoneros in the January transfer window due to his bad relationship with manager Diego Simeone, and according to Marca, Jorge Mendes wants the ‘jewel’ to join a Premier League side, which Villa seen as favourable.
The report leaves it to be seen how the negotiations will carry on in the next few days, and if João Félix would accept joining a club who are not protagonists in the European scenario, even though he could change their tier.
Marca points out that European sides such as Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Manchester United and Paris Saint Germain are all interested in the Portuguese star, but ‘some sources point out’ it’s really Aston Villa who’ll end up signing him.
