Arne Slot and Michael Edwards are in contact with Eintracht Frankfurt striker Hugo Ekitike this summer.
That’s according to Sky Germany, who say that Liverpool are ‘now serious in the running’ for the French forward.
They report that initial talks have already taken place about the striker and both Slot and Edwards have ‘put out feelers’ for him. The Reds are playing a ‘very clever tactical game’ for him, as they did with Florian Wirtz. Their biggest rival is currently Chelsea.
No official offer has been made as yet and sporting director Markus Krösche is still demanding €100m for his star man. Whether Liverpool would pay that is debatable given the huge sums they’ll have to pay for Wirtz.
We would point out, though, that the German media have spent the past few months essentially shopping Ekitike around on Frankfurt’s behalf.
That’s seen his price steadily rising, with the asking price previously €80m and now having risen to €100m. Both feel like sums that the German side would be very fortunate to receive this summer.
Slot and Edwards are said to be in contact for Liverpool, though, perhaps working out a deal that would suit everyone even if the asking price does seem farcical at this point.
