Viktor Gyökeres to Arsenal is edging closer to being a reality. Despite the player’s camp continually trying to escalate drama with Sporting, there should be confidence a deal will be reached quickly.
Earlier on Monday, we covered a report from Record, who have been fed by the player’s camp throughout his saga, which presented the latest threat. Should Sporting not agree a deal with Arsenal then Gyökeres could force a loan exit at the end of the window, with Fenerbahçe already said to be interested.
A laughable threat, which offered up the prospect of the player cutting off his nose to spite his face.
Over at A Bola it’s reported Arsenal officials left Lisbon on Monday and the plan is to agree a deal by Friday. That would mean there’s no trigger point of the striker returning to Sporting training on July 11th… or not returning should he decide to go AWOL.
Arsenal’s Andrea Berta met Sporting directors at the weekend, and direct contact looks to be the best idea given the added drama the player’s camp appear keen to inject at every opportunity.
The Portuguese newspaper then states: ‘A meeting in which, according to A Bola, significant steps were taken in a process that has been dragging on for the last few weeks. And while nothing has been agreed, a window of hope has opened up that the next few hours may indeed be decisive in a desired agreement between all parties involved.’
A Bola report they’re aware those in charge at Arsenal are set to take another step, ‘very soon’, to try and get this one over the line, that could well be converting their €65m plus €15m verbal offer to €70m plus €10m, or at least making the €15m in bonuses very achievable.
The report states: ‘The next few hours will therefore be decisive and the lions really believe that everything can be finalised by Friday.’
The added drama from Gyökeres’ camp as detailed by Record earlier really feels like a distraction at this stage as the clubs bypass it to try and reach a final agreement.
Of course anything could happen in the next few days, but as long as Berta swerves the drama and speaks to Sporting directly then Arsenal have a very good chance of completing this quickly.
