Napoli are keen on signing Victor Osimhen and have already found an agreement with Lille for the transfer.
However, the striker’s decision to change agents has slowed down the operation and there have been reports about Liverpool’s interest in the 21-year-old.
On July 17th, Calciomercato.it explained the Reds are ‘in the lead’ to acquire the Nigeria international’s services. Later that day, Radio Marte reported the Merseyside club have contacted the French side about the ‘possible signing’ of the player.
Speaking to CalcioNapoli24, Italian journalist Ciro Venerato claims Osimhen’s new agent William d’Avila has been talking to Jürgen Klopp’s side for days.
D’Avila had earlier promised his client he will find a club in the Premier League, and in order to ‘turn the promise into reality’, he ‘insists with Liverpool’.
There have also been reports suggesting the frontman has already completed his medical with the Naples club, but Venerato says the Serie A side have denied these claims.
Lille initially asked for €80m for their star. According to Venerato, the Ligue 1 side received only one offer for him and that’s from Napoli. New meetings are expected between Gennaro Gattuso’s side and D’Avila, after which a decision will be taken on the attacker.
TuttoMercatoWeb claim Osimhen wants to stick to the word he gave to Cristiano Giuntoli and despite the ‘sirens’ from Liverpool, he’s pushing for a move towards the Stadio San Paolo.
Last minute twists and turns cannot be ruled out, but everything indicates the player will join Napoli, unless Klopp decides to break the bank.
It’s worth noting that claims of Liverpool’s interest are only mentioned in the Italian media, and the same hasn’t been reciprocated by the French and British press.
