Agent Jorge Mendes has offered Barcelona midfielder Nico González to Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers ahead of a potential move this summer.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the player could be on his way out of the Camp Nou if he is not part of Xavi’s plans this season.
González has returned to Barcelona from a loan spell at Valencia last season, where he was a regular throughout the campaign and ‘captivated’ with his performances.
Clubs in Portugal, England and Spain have all called Barcelona to ask the club about his situation after watching those displays last season.
At the moment he is a part of pre-season with Barcelona, where manager Xavi doesn’t see him as a replacement for Sergio Busquets, as has been suggested, but more of an attacking midfielder.
He wants to evaluate the player and potentially find a place in his team for him, something the player would also love as he maintains a desire to succeed at Barcelona after working his way through their youth ranks.
However, if it becomes clear he will not get minutes this season, the best thing for him would be an exit. If he receives offers from clubs, such as Aston Villa and Wolves, then he will study them.
Those two have both been offered the player by Jorge Mendes, who is his agent and ready to move if it becomes clear that he needs to leave this summer.
Wolves would make sense of course given Mendes’ power there and the fact several midfielders have moved on from Julen Lopetegui’s squad.
Aston Villa less so as they’ve strengthened their midfielder already with the signing of Youri Tielemans and already had options in that area of the team.
It all depends on Xavi and his plans for González this season, but Mendes is certainly ready to move if his client can’t get gametime.
