Philippe Coutinho didn’t get any happier with Liverpool’s draw against Spartak Moscow for the Champions League group stage last night.
Despite having scored an equalizer at the 31th minute, the midfielder couldn’t lead the team to a comeback and the Reds are now with only two points after two fixtures.
Coutinho spoke to Brazilian outlet Globo Esporte after the game, and showed how disappointed he was for the result: “We get frustrated because we know we have to add points to go through this stage. We were once again superior in the game, we had more ball possession, we created more chances, we deserved the win.
“We didn’t score the goals, we came home with a draw, a result that was not what we wanted. We have four more games and we need to give everything to get through”.
With less than an year for the 2018 World Cup, the player was questioned about the chance to play in Russia so close to the tournament, but he claims it wasn’t even on his mind: “I hadn’t even thought about it, we’re so close to the World Cup, too. We have to keep working, do well, in order to be there and make a great Cup for Brazil.
“Brazil always has this favoritism, we have to use it in our favor. Continue strong, feet on the ground and each call up, try to evolve as a group, as a team, to reach our goal”.
Coutinho was also asked to comment on the alleged racism incident involving Sadio Mane, but claimed that he wasn’t aware of it: “If that really happened, then it really is regrettable”.
Liverpool’s next Champions League game will be hosted in Slovenia, as the Reds will fly to face Maribor for the third fixture of the group stage.
