It seems that, regardless of however many clubs are interested, the Nampalys Mendy saga is going to go down to the wire, as the player rejects moves and favours other ones.
Said to be close to a loan to Rennes, the 25-year-old decided to turn that down in favour of either high-flying Saint-Etienne or his former club Nice, and it seems the latter of the two are winning.
Speaking to TF1 in France, the player’s agent said: “I’m still in talks with Nice. It would be a proud moment for the player and myself if he came back, because it would be just as if he never left the club that helped him grow.
“We owe a lot to Nice, and if there’s a 1% chance for him to return there, we will take it.”
While that might not exactly be true, considering the player did spend a rather disappointing season at Leicester City, where he only made four Premier League appearances, the prospect of a loan with a view to buy will be one of great interest for the defensive midfielder.
Clearly unhappy at the way he was treated at King Power Stadium, Mendy has made it rather clear he wants to leave, and was favouring a move to Bordeaux earlier in the summer.
However, Leicester’s insistence on getting their money back meant quite a few clubs, but it seems their desperation has now matched the player’s, and they are open to loan deals as long as they get some money in the future.
