Tottenham have ‘great interest’ in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, who is available for €18m this summer.
That’s according to SportBILD, who say the ‘defensive boss’ is being targeted by several clubs thanks to the release clause in his current contract.
The newspaper explains that Tah has developed into a real leader for Xabi Alonso’s side this season, establishing himself as a key player in the side that tops the Bundesliga.
His current deal runs until 2025, though, meaning he will either have to extend in the summer or be sold to avoid him leaving on a free in a year’s time.
He is being discussed by Bayern Munich, but the defender is more drawn to the Premier League, having made it clear in the past he would love to play in England.
Tottenham are one of those showing ‘great interest’ in him and have ‘good chances’ of getting a deal done thanks to the €18m release clause in his contract which activates in the summer.
One caveat, though, is that if Tah does not extend and instead decides to leave at the end of the season, he will only depart Leverkusen for a club who are in the Champions League.
Thus, Tottenham need to ensure they qualify to be in with a shout for a transfer that would be easy to secure if they do.
