With the Premier League dominating the transfer market in the past few years, some European giants ended up losing the financial power they once had, especially those from Italy.
So as newspaper Tuttosport now features a story about how English clubs are set to have the power in the transfer window this summer, we get to see the likes of Crystal Palace, Leeds United and Southampton getting a mention.
The start of that story is actually pretty reasonable, saying Europe’s biggest stars will likely be heading to the Premier League again. But then there’s huge drama because ‘even the least famous’ English clubs can afford big signings these days.
Southampton are said to be able to finance the signing of someone like Nicolò Barella.
‘Not only the big ones therefore, but also the so-called small Premier League players can compete on the international market and put the best of Serie A under contract,’ says the newspaper, making clear exaggerations about players who, in the past few months, were only linked to clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United instead of Crystal Palace, Leeds and Southampton.
So if this claim spreads, which it likely will, be aware it’s Tuttosport being dramatic and is far from realistic.
