It’s now been three days since Enzo Fernandez’s transfer to Chelsea was confirmed, but it continues to be one of the main stories in the Portuguese media.
So as Fulham striker Carlos Vinícius was today interviewed by Radio Antena 1, he had to answer to a few questions about the midfielder.
The Whites’ player said he’s ‘rooting’ for the Argentine at Chelsea, despite being sad he only spent six months at Benfica.
“It’s a shame to have left our Benfica so early, it was a great help for the club to be champions, but it’s part of the process. He has his career plan. But I hope that everything works out at Chelsea. It’s a great transfer, a great player,” Carlos Vinícius told Antena 1 (via Record).
“He had the opportunity at Benfica that went very well for him, and then he had the opportunity at the World Cup and he did the job, he showed all the potential he has. It’s normal that now everyone looks at him with different eyes, for the value of the transfer, but he has quality and will fit in well. I hope he doesn’t succeed against us.”
Carlos Vinícius also talked about how much Fernandez will be missed at Benfica, and mentioned manager Roger Schmidt being upset with such an early departure from the player.
“Especially one like Enzo… It’s normal for him to be upset, but it’s like he said: those who are there do the job and I’m rooting for them to be champions and for things to go well.”
Carlos Vinícius joined Benfica in 2019, but the truth is that he didn’t spend a lot of time at the club. In the summer of 2020, he was loaned to Tottenham Hotspur for a year. When his spell ended, he made a similar move to PSV. And last summer, he left the Eagles for good, this time in a €5m move to Fulham.
