Ralph Hasenhüttl could choose to retire early following Southampton’s decision to sack him this week, rather than continue in the game.
That’s according to Krone, who say the Austrian boss could ‘quit altogether’ after Southampton’s decision to remove him from his position.
Hasenhüttl’s almost four year spell in charge at Saint Mary’s was brought to an end this week after Southampton had managed just three wins in four games this season and slipped into the relegation zone.
That decision was believed to have been made a few days ago but finalised following the 4-1 defeat to Newcastle at the weekend.
They explain how Hasenhüttl had ‘speculated on retirement in 2024’ anyway, with the former Southampton boss commenting on the fact last year.
“I don’t see many scenarios in which I would give myself up for something else,” they quote him as saying.
“I will also ask myself the question at some point, and I mean that in all seriousness, whether I want to do anything at all after that.”
The outlet now say that the ‘time has come’ for the 55-year-old to make his choice after Southampton decided to part ways with him.
Their belief is that those comments, plus something of a rollercoaster four-year spell on the South Coast, mean it will be ‘interesting’ to see if a new coaching job ‘still appeals’ to the coach.
