Having scored 21 goals last season for Rennes, Martin Terrier certainly pricked a few ears up with his performances.

Among those taking note, it seems, was Graham Potter, formerly of Brighton and now firmly in place at Chelsea after replacing Thomas Tuchel.

The manager has endured a rather mixed start at Stamford Bridge since taking over, with his team still trying to find themselves after the change of manager.

Chelsea recently lost to Arsenal, and have struggled to find the back of the net as often as they will have wanted, despite signing the likes of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Raheem Sterling over the summer.

Armando Broja doesn’t seem completely ready just yet either to have an impact at such a big club, which is why the Blues will be looking to strengthen their attack over the January transfer window.

The Terrier idea comes from Jeunes Footeux in France, who explain that with his lack of depth up front, Potter has asked for ‘at least one forward during the next transfer window’, which is when the former Brighton man ‘whispered the name of Martin Terrier to the recruiting staff at Chelsea’.

The problem is that Rennes aren’t overly keen to sell, and it can be ‘legitimately assume that for less than €50m’, the Ligue 1 side will ‘refuse to negotiate’, as he is tied to them until 2026.

Considering Potter also likes Leandro Trossard, whom he managed on the south coast, perhaps the Belgian will be a more easily attainable target, as his contract runs out in 2023.
