Towards the end of last month, Sport suggested that Sevilla star Jules Koundé wants to go to Chelsea after this season.

The Blues showed interest in the defender last summer, but their proposal didn’t end up convincing the La Liga side.

Koundé is still on Chelsea’s radar, but it is not clear whether they will be able to acquire his services in the next window.

Antonio Rüdiger will leave the Premier League side after his contract with them expires on June 30th. Andreas Christensen, who is another free agent in the summer, is also set to leave the west London club.

Chelsea will need to bolster their defence and reports in England have already linked them with a handful of players, including Koundé.

Estadio Deportivo relay these claims and give their own take on the France international. They state he is a ‘priority’ target for Thomas Tuchel, but it is not certain the Premier League side will return for the former Bordeaux man after this season.

At the moment, ‘everything is up in the air’ at Stamford Bridge as Chelsea are looking to find a new owner.

The UK government, who imposed sanctions on Roman Abramovich, have handed the club a special license to operate until May 31st. The Blues will have to sort out their situation and must have a new custodian in place by then.

If the government decide to further extend the special license given to Chelsea, then they will not be able to make new additions in the summer. This would block Koundé’s chances of moving to London.

To sum it up, Chelsea are expected to make a move for the Frenchman and he is keen to join them. However, the current situation at the Bridge first needs sorting out for Tuchel’s side to sign Koundé.
