Signed from OGC Nice for around £16m, Allan Saint-Maximin has become something of a fan favourite at Newcastle United.
The forward saw his campaign frustrated by a calf injury between November and January, although he appears to be back on track after a great two assist performance against Southampton, taking his tally to one goal and three assists in 13 Premier League appearances.
The success of his move appears to have caught the eye of some back in France, as But! Football Club report that Alban Lafont’s entourage ‘approached the law firm representing’ the Newcastle star to try and help them get a transfer sorted in the summer, ‘but between Brexit and the third wave of Covid-19 in the United Kingdom, the idea of crossing the Channel could be put to bed’.
While the Premier League might have been his ‘preference’, that appears to now be on the back burner.
We’ll have to wait and see how things are in the summer, and perhaps if things have calmed down pandemic wise, then Lafont might get his chance at crossing the Channel.
If he does, Saint-Maximin’s lawyers could work their magic and, who knows, perhaps even send the shot stopper to St James’ Park?
