Real Madrid have turned down an approach from Liverpool for forward Vinícius Júnior and have no intention to let the Brazilian leave the club in future.
That’s according to Sport, who say the youngster remains in Zinedine Zidane’s plans despite his struggles to impress this season.
Vinícius joined Real Madrid in a £40.5m deal from Flamengo in July 2018 and has made 59 appearances for the club thus far, scoring seven goals and registering 15 assists.
Those are relatively impressive numbers for the 19-year-old, although a lack of form before the break imposed by the Coronavirus outbreak had led to suggestions he could be moved on.
Liverpool have been named as a potential destination on more than one occasion, having tried to sign him before his move to the Spanish giants.
However, this was ‘rejected outright’ by Madrid, who have ‘categorically rejected’ any chance of Vinícius leaving as they believe he still has a ‘great future ahead of him’.
The newspaper makes no mention of what this proposal was, or specifically, what kind of price Liverpool had proposed, just that they and Paris Saint Germain came forward to try and sign the 19-year-old.
What’s interesting is that this rumour flies in the face of recent suggestions that Liverpool would not be active in this window.
There have been numerous claims that the Reds are holding back after seeing their finances take a hit because of the Coronavirus outbreak, but a proposal for Vinícius would suggest they do have money to spend.
He wouldn’t be moving if it wasn’t for a high price, something the Reds will be aware of, and unless this was only a case of them asking about him and nothing more, it seems they’ll be more active than first thought.
