West Ham defender Fabián Balbuena has said the club are returning to training as normal today amid the Coronavirus outbreak.
The Premier League is currently suspended until the beginning of April after Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta tested positive last week.
The spread of the virus has seen several clubs go into isolation, with some electing to cancel training and instead put their players on individual regimes to avoid spreading the virus.
West Ham were no different, with manager David Moyes electing to self-isolate after coming into contact with Arteta earlier this month.
He has now come out of that isolation, and it seems West Ham will be pushing forward with their regular training routine amid the enforced break.
“From tomorrow (March 18th) we train normally, just training and then going home, without going into the dressing room,” he told 970 AM, relayed by Tigo Sports.
“There are strange things in the government; it seems that they expect worse things to happen.”
Unlike many countries, the UK is yet to completely close it’s borders, with flights from various countries still arriving on a daily basis.
That is likely to change in the coming weeks, perhaps days, as the government steps up their attempts to limit the spread of the disease.
Nonetheless, travel out of the country is highly inadvisable at this time, not that Balbuena could do so anyway.
“It’s easier to stay here, but even if we wanted to, we couldn’t go,” he added.
“We don’t have club authorisation to travel; it’s clear that it’s something serious.
“I hope that this can be improved on in the short term.”
