Signed from AFC Bournemouth over the summer, Lys Mousset has managed to find time on the pitch he was lacking in the south coast at Sheffield United.
Chris Wilder has relied on the Frenchman often enough, as the 24-year-old has made 23 appearances in the Premier League, scoring five goals and assisting another four.
While things are looking up at club level, it’s a different story on the international scene.
Despite making eight appearances for France’s U21s, during which he scored five goals, there is little chance of him getting called up by Didier Deschamps in the near future, meaning he will need to look elsewhere if he wants to represent a country at the highest level.
He said: “I’ve always wanted to play for Senegal. Since I was little, I always told my father that I wanted to play for Senegal. All I’m waiting for is the phone call from the manager, Aliou Cissé”.
Even if he might have to fight for a spot, he isn’t worried, because ‘competition is always present in football’ and the current Senegalese team ‘is extraordinary’.
