Player says time at Leeds United was a ‘great experience’… off the pitch

Felix Wiedwald has insisted he does not regret moving to Leeds United, despite an unhappy time at Elland Road.

The goalkeeper joined Leeds from Werder Bremen back in 2017, as then-manager Thomas Christiansen looked to add competition in the goalkeeping department, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell the man to beat.

Wiedwald proved to be a big hit that season, making 30 appearances in all competitions and keeping 12 clean sheets in Championship games.

The German ended up spending just the one season in England, though, with Leeds United allowing him to depart for Eintracht Frankfurt the following summer.

Wiedwald has since bounced around clubs, with the move to Eintracht not working out either after they signed Kevin Trapp from Paris Saint Germain.

It’s easy to imagine the goalkeeper looks back and regrets making a move to Leeds in the first place, but he insists that isn’t the case.

“Sporting wise things could have gone better, but personally it was a great experience, I learnt a lot of things,” he told Deich Stube.

“In England, the goalkeepers are changed quickly. First in, then outside, later back in – you have to get used to it.”

At least he had a good time away from the game.
