Late last week, we relayed an update on Andrea Petagna and Southampton’s alleged interest in the Atalanta striker.
The bottom line was that SPAL had made an offer for the 22-year-old, but that had seemingly yet to be accepted by his club, allowing more time for the Saints to move concretely.
Fast forward to Monday, and Corriere della Sera’s Bergamo edition believe Parma are also pushing, with SPAL still the ‘ample favourites’, and Southampton aren’t mentioned in the slightest.
What the local newspaper do say, however, is that the target man would ideally prefer a move to the Premier League, probably hearing of the stories of Mark Hughes’ interest in him and getting all excited.
Corriere della Sera state that no real opportunity has arrived from England for him just yet, and that’s entirely down to Southampton, who might not be as keen as has been previously reported.
It did seem a bit of a strange one on paper, notably due to Petagna’s goalscoring record (six in 39 appearances last season) when the Saints are in dire need of a prolific forward rather than another target man capable of bringing others into play.
Nevertheless, there’s still rumblings, so we’ll continue looking around for any updates in the near future.
