Super-agent Jorge Mendes is already at work to place Wolverhampton Wanderers’ Rúben to Barcelona, according to Sport on Tuesday.

The representative had several summits with the La Liga side in the summer, with a hope of finalising important operations. He also advised and helped the Catalan club, in the hope that his work will be rewarded in the coming months.

Neves had an opportunity to arrive at the Camp Nou in the last window through a player plus cash deal, for a fee ‘much lower’ than what was reported then.

Wolves asked for around €60m for the Portugal international. Mendes’ influence over the English club Molineux is great and Sport say this would have made it easier for the Blaugrana to sign him.

Instead, Barca decided against signing the Wolves star. Despite this, the Spanish giants have the 25-year-old ‘very well on track’ for next summer.

It needs to be seen who will win this battle, although the report states Mendes remains calm and confident of placing the midfielder at the Camp Nou, again for a reduced fee.

The player has already rejected approaches made by other Premier League sides in order to join Barcelona.

Mendes is trying to take Neves to Barca after this term and his ties with Wolves could favour Xavi Hernández in the potential operation.
