Benfica seem to be still trying to convince themselves that Wolverhampton Wanderers loanee Gonçalo Guedes will have a positive spell at the club.

The latest story on the striker comes from A Bola, and claims that the player is set to be given a new chance to shine in Portugal.

The reason for that is Angel Di Maria is set to have some extra days off at the start of January, and that will open a spot for Guedes to play more.

Since his loan from Wolves was renewed last summer, he’s only played 252 minutes, in 12 appearances, and made two assists, without scoring goal.

A Bola writes that Guedes is now ready for a ‘new opportunity’ as he’s the first in line to be a starter, and is still trying to ‘justify’ the bet Benfica made on him.

Wolves will certainly hope he does well in Lisbon, as it’s clear the club no longer have plans for him. He’d already been loaned to Benfica for the second part of last season, but struggled with injuries and had his deal renewed. Now he has six more months to show something different.
