Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder João Moutinho was left out of Portugal’s first team training session today.
Record, who could watch the squad working for a few minutes before the media were asked to leave, reports that the player had to work separately from the group due to physical issues he’s been having.
On a press conference earlier today, Portugal manager Fernando Santos had already confirmed that Moutinho wouldn’t be joining his teammates for now, even though he expects the 34-year-old to be fit for tomorrow.
“João had a problem. Yesterday he trained, not integrated, today he’ll return to training not yet integrated, but the indications I have from the clinical department is that there’s a very strong possibility that João will be recovered for Tuesday’s game,” said Fernando Santos (via Mais Futebol).
Moutinho featured in last week’s match against Azerbaijan for 45 minutes. Following his injury, he was left out of the match against Serbia on Saturday, as he was already working on his recovery for the match against Luxembourg.
The weekend’s 1-1 draw makes it crucial for Portugal to win their upcoming games and continue sharing the top of the table with Serbia. With Bruno Fernandes suspended, we can bet that Moutinho will be doing his best to be on the pitch tomorrow.
