Ronald Araújo continues to be linked to Manchester United as there is still no clarity over his long-term future at Barcelona.

The defender’s contract at the Camp Nou expires in 2023 and he’s not agreed to terms offered by the La Liga side to sign an extension.

This has allowed the Red Devils to step up their efforts to make an approach for the 23-year-old in the summer.

Last Friday, Sport reported the Manchester club’s chances of taking the centre-back away from the Blaugrana are increasing. Two days ago, Mundo Deportivo explained Manchester United are ‘pushing hard’ to secure Araújo’s signature.

There seems to be a new update in this case if the latest report from Spanish journalist Gerard Romero is to be believed. He took to Twitter to claim the Old Trafford club have made an offer to the Uruguay international.

According to Romero, Araújo is handling an offer from United that includes a salary, likely net, of around €8m per year. He also has a proposal from Arsenal, which is €2m less than what their league rivals have offered.

It’ll be interesting to see whether Araújo will pick one of these two clubs or pen a new deal at the Camp Nou.

Barcelona must act quickly as they are running out of time to tie him down to a new deal. A failure to do so in the coming months will see them allow the South American to enter his final 12 months of contract.
