Alexander Tettey arrived at Carrow Road when Norwich City signed him from Rennes in 2012.

At the start of this season, the Norwegian entered his final year of contract with the Canaries and reports coming out of his country suggested a return to Norway in the summer was on the cards. This had annoyed the 33-year-old.

Speaking to TV2 last October, the midfielder explained a decision on his future would be taken depending on “how much more the body can handle after this season”.

Tettey ended rumours around his future by signing a new contract with the Premier League club in February and his current deal lasts until 2021.

VG in Norway had a conversation with the player and during the course of the interview, Tettey revealed his wife wanted to return to Norway after this season.

“My wife wanted to go home. She still wants to go home. She has been on this journey since we left for Rennes in France eleven years ago,” he said.

“But she realises the importance of me being at the age I am, and being offered a contract, so you have to think a lot before you say no.

“It’s not every time you get a contract. She is smart enough to say thank you. She’s on the journey. When things are done, we go home happy and start a new life. They are included.

“The guys at home are happy. When they are happy, I am happy to hang around England, because it is the best place to be in football. I couldn’t imagine being anywhere else

“I feel I owe her and have to show it when my career is over. Without her, this would not have happened. I must say that. She is at home and looks after two children.

“At the same time, I do all this for her and for the children. We’ll get plenty of time at home in Trondheim with snow and all that. She understands that, and I am grateful that she is with me. It is very important.”

Tettey also admitted Norwich were ‘crazy’ to offer him an extension and on extending his stay at the club, he said: “I can’t really describe it. Everything has worked to the maximum, which has made me sign the contract.”

“I honestly don’t know how the body will work next season. I don’t really know, and I have been honest about that, but you would think and hope it goes well.

“Physically, I’ve never felt better than now. I don’t know how, and I’ve been asked many times about how to do it, but it just happened.”
