West Ham United’s potential move for Youssef En-Nesyri has been a year in the making, with the Hammers unsuccessfully trying to get him before his move to Sevilla.
That’s what Estadio Deportivo report today, revealing that the Hammers interest in the striker is not a sudden thing.
David Moyes’ side appeared to have made an impulsive move for the Sevilla forward this week, with the Scottish boss desperate to add another striker to his squad this month after letting Sebastien Haller join Ajax.
En-Nesyri appears to be their number one target and, after seeing an initial €30m move rejected earlier this week, have now returned with a €40m offer.
That price is believed to be what Sevilla are looking for, and it remains to be seen whether they will actually accept West Ham’s offer or resist it once more.
Either way, it appears that West Ham’s interest is not quite as new as it has been presented this week.
Estadio say before Monchi took him to Sevilla last year, paying his release clause of €20m at Leganes to do so, the Spanish side had already rejected two proposals from the Premier League for him.
One of those was from Brighton, and the other was from West Ham, who have now returned to try and sign the player once again.
There’s no mention of what they bid at the time, but we can assume it was below €20m given that was the value of his release clause.
They’ll now need to pay double that to get their man if Sevilla and En-Nesyri are willing to accept their offer that is.
