West Ham United have returned with a new offer to sign Hans Vanaken after their first bid was turned down by Club Brugge.
That’s according to Het Nieuwsblad, who say the Hammers raised their offer to €11m plus €2m in potential bonuses. Their first offer was also worth €13m, which included a €10m fixed fee.
This is not enough for the Jupiler Pro League side. That doesn’t mean the 30-year-old’s sale to West Ham won’t be possible. There are two factors that need to be fulfilled for the deal to take shape.
Club Brugge have to find a replacement first for the attacking midfielder, before letting their star join West Ham.
This won’t be easy because of the impact the Belgium international has, both on and off the pitch. The second one is linked to David Moyes’ side making a proposal that ends up convincing Club Brugge.
Another Belgian newspaper, Het Belang van Limburg, are also reporting that West Ham have ‘made a new bid’ of €11m, raising to €13m with bonuses included.
This proposal won’t be accepted as it is clearly insufficient for the Belgian champions.
On Monday, Club Brugge indicated their captain’s sale is possible if they were to receive the ‘right’ bid and then find a replacement for their star.
Vanaken, for his part, ‘absolutely wants to go to the Premier League’.
With two sources claiming West Ham’s new bid is not sufficient for Club Brugge, it remains to be seen whether they will return with an improved proposal to sign Vanaken.
