West Ham United’s chase for São Paulo defender Luizão today gets some exciting updates from the Brazilian media.

Journalist André Hernan now features a video on Youtube to say the Tricolor were informed that the player is not renewing his contract with the club.

That means he’ll be able to leave them for free in January, and despite having many clubs chasing him, it’s actually West Ham who lead the race for the signing.

Hernan claims the Hammers are ‘in the lead’ to land the player. It just isn’t known yet if the Premier League side would need to spend something on the transfer.

The reason for it is that despite seeing his contract run out and rejecting three offers for a renewal, Luizão and his staff actually want São Paulo to have some kind of compensation for his exit. And that shall depend on an agreement between the Tricolor and West Ham.

The defender’s contract with the Brazilian club only expires on the 31st of December. So an early deal would definitely help him arrive in London at the start of the winter window and have more time to adapt for the remainder of the season.
