West Ham’s interest in Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi was reported by the English and Italian media earlier this week, with website Euro Calcio Mercato saying the player is an option for the London side.

Now it’s the Spanish press who reacts to it, with website Estadio Deportivo bringing some interesting information for the Hammers.

They make it sound like West Ham’s interest comes at a good time, because the player availability may be increasing.

They recall that Mandi had a great season in 2018/19, and that’s why he’s been linked to the likes of Atletico Madrid, Arsenal and Manchester City. At that time, Betis were planning to give him a new deal and raise his release clause from €30m to €40m.

But the 28-year-old isn’t having a great start of season so far, suffering a little bit with Betis’ defensive problems.

Perhaps that’s a reason why Estadio Deportivo, Betis’ local sport newspaper, says there’s been no advances in negotiations for a new contract. They also claim the player ‘doesn’t rule out listening to offers’ to leave the Spanish side.

So that looks like a good time to make an effort for Mandi, even though we’d like to see some stronger stories before buying this one.
