West Ham United are keeping tabs on Lazio centre-back Francesco Acerbi.
The defender is not part of Maurizio Sarri’s plans going forward this term and is looking to leave the Serie A side before the window closes.
That’s according to La Lazio Siamo Noi, who state West Ham ‘think’ of the 34-year-old.
The Italy international would like to reunite with Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan, but they have not moved for him. If they decide to strengthen their defenece, the Nerazzurri’s first goal is to sign Borussia Dortmund’s Manuel Akanji.
Having been left out of Sarri’s plans, the centre-back ‘wants another adventure’. Lazio, for their part, are ‘willing to talk’ for an onerous loan, without a redemption obligation.
David Moyes’s side get a mention as the report states West Ham have ‘inquired about his situation’. A move to the Hammers seems difficult because Acerbi would prefer to stay in Italy.
He also has doubts of coping with the Premier League’s ‘intense rhythms’. At 34 years of age, the Italian feels being a starter in England or fighting for a place in the playing XI there ‘could become a double-edged sword’.
For these reasons, amid West Ham’s approach, Acerbi would prefer to continue in Serie A and for now, has only Inter in his mind. He is patiently waiting for Inzaghi’s side.
