That’s it. West Ham United have reportedly given up on signing FC Porto striker Moussa Marega.
Even though a couple of Portuguese newspapers claim that today is a decisive day for the case, outlet Record says there’s no more chance for the transfer to happen.
According to their report, West Ham have not shown capacity to afford the player’s €40m release clause which was demanded by Porto.
The Hammers have even put some other options on the table, trying to pay for the deal on different dates, but the Dragons have closed the doors to that option.
The difficulty imposed by Porto is what convinced West Ham to go for another target for the position.
That’s why they were quick to work on a deal for Arsenal striker Lucas Perez, who’s joining the club for about €5.5m.
Now the Portuguese media believe that Marega will not be returning to the Dragons’ squad so easily. He must convince the board that he regrets his actions when trying to force his way out to the Premier League.
