While there is a slight feeling that Gleison Bremer will want to play in the Champions League next season, one club could change that if they prove convincing enough with their money.
That is, of course, Newcastle United, who are expected to spend the big bucks this summer to consolidate the squad at Eddie Howe’s disposal.
While they have already signed Dan Burn, the Magpies could bring in another defender, especially if Fabian Schär leaves on a free, with Bremer on their radar.
That’s according to Gazzetta dello Sport, who state the ‘wealthy Newcastle’ are one of a number of teams to have made ‘phone calls’ and sent scouts to watch the Brazilian, currently excelling at Torino.
His performances have impressed a number of clubs around Europe, and it’s clear that the Tyneside club haven’t ignored him either, because they seem to be interested.
Despite claims elsewhere that a fee of €25m or so could be enough to sign him, Gazzetta dello Sport ignore that completely and push the idea that he could cost more than €50m.
Looking at the market for defenders in the past, and the fact clubs like Manchester United have spent large sums of money on Harry Maguire, their belief is that Bremer’s value is ‘certainly flying’ and should certainly end up ‘breaking through the €50m mark’.
Something for Newcastle to think about, added on to the big wages they will likely have to give him to convince him to choose them over the likes of Inter or Borussia Dortmund, and it could end up being an expensive, but probably worthwhile, transfer.
