Allan Saint-Maximin has been linked with several Premier League clubs this summer.

At the beginning of June we covered claims from France of Everton interest in the Nice player, as the Toffees were looking at several options from Ligue 1.

Then towards the end of June, the French media pushed the player closer to Newcastle United. Saint-Maxim was said to be relatively close to agreeing personal terms with the Magpies, and it was thought a deal could be done for around €25m.

That didn’t happen, and now Watford have pushed themselves to the front of the queue.

France Football report the Hornets are keen on the attacker and have taken steps towards recruiting him this summer, and they state: ‘The club headed by the Pozzo family came into contact with the player’s entourage. He’s even ahead on a short-list of three names where we find Ismaila Sarr and the Egyptian at Kasimpasa, Trezeguet.’

Saint-Maxim would probably have liked to aim higher up the Premier League than the clubs mentioned, but hasn’t been consistent enough to attract those he wants. Everton and Newcastle interest is referenced again, and it’s explained a move to the top six of England’s top league is unlikely this summer.

Therefore he needs to take what France Football an ‘intermediate step’, which would then allow him to attract others down the line.

Regarding Watford, the 22 year old isn’t in a hurry to decide, believing other teams could appear as the window drags on. Right now, Watford are presented as edging ahead of the others.
