Harry Kane deserves praise for deciding to leave Tottenham for Bayern Munich this summer and has proven any doubters wrong with his performances since.

That’s according to Nils Petersen, who believes the England captain was brave to decide to move to Munich.

Peterson knows all about the pressures of playing for the German giants, having played for them for two years between 2011 and 2013.

He joined the club in a €2.8m deal from Energie Cottbus in July 2011 but struggled to make much of an impact, managing just four goals in 15 appearances over a two-year spell before moving to Werder Bremen in July 2013.

It means he is uniquely positioned to understand the problems facing a striker like Kane, who made the same move in the summer transfer window.

His was undeniably a more high profile one, as he left Tottenham in a €95m deal to ultimately be the replacement for Robert Lewandowski, who had left Bayern for Barcelona a year earlier.

He was sorely missed last season, but Kane has quickly set about impressing everyone, with 22 goals and seven assists in 19 games in all competitions so far.

It’s been all positive for him and Petersen believes he should be praised for having the bravery to leave Tottenham.

“First and foremost, I am happy that such a player has made his way to the Bundesliga,” he said.

“It wasn’t easy for him because at Tottenham Hotspur he was automatically always the best and the one around whom everything revolved. It’s different at FC Bayern.

“In addition, the expectations were immense due to the high transfer fee. I take my hat off to how he handles it. He makes his teammates better, he scores on the assembly line, he takes responsibility. This is simply enormous quality with the title “world class”.”
