In January 2019, Clube Atlético Mineiro announced they’d sold Emerson to Barcelona for around €12m.
It was a very unusual deal, with Real Betis financing half of it and the Brazilian ending up at the Seville club. Barcelona have a contractual right to sign Emerson from Betis for €6m in the 2021 summer window, and if he’s sold elsewhere, and Barca agree with that sale, they’ll get a chunk of the profit.
But it’s not just Betis and Barca who could be tussling over the 21 year old’s future, with others, including Tottenham Hotspur, also interested.
Spurs are ‘very attentive’ to a possible summer signing, yet this could be a difficult one. A deal would have to please all of Betis, Barca and Emerson, and the Premier League club won’t want to overpay to do so.
