Belgium boss Roberto Martinez has hailed Everton star Amadou Onana after calling him up for his World Cup squad.
The Everton midfielder was included in Martinez’s 26-man squad for the World Cup in Qatar, earning himself a call up following an impressive couple of months at Goodison Park.
He joined Everton from Lille in the summer, with the Blues moving quickly and paying €35m to secure his signature ahead of West Ham.
Onana has been a big hit for them since, quickly establishing himself in the heart of Frank Lampard’s midfield with a series of impressive performances.
That has seen him earn a call-up to the Belgium squad, with Roberto Martinez electing to hand him his debut in June this year and having him as part of his squad since.
“(He is) another unique profile,” Het Laatste Niuews report him saying.
“Someone with such physical presence and dynamism is needed, just think of Fellaini in 2018. He is also a leader on the pitch who has made strides in his career.
“From Germany to France and now the Premier League…. He deserves this selection.”
“It is refreshing to see someone with his qualities. It’s completely different from what we already had at the core,” KW also quote him as saying.
