On Monday we covered claims from the Netherlands that Manchester City had agreed a deal to sign Philippe Sandler and were in the process of finalising it.
City are paying PEC Zwolle €3m for the central defender, he’s travelled for his medical, and will be loaned back to the Dutch club for the rest of the season.
The story has since spread in the Netherlands and Tuesday’s edition of De Telegraaf adds more. In what they call a ‘surprising’ transfer, it’s explained Txiki Begiristain and Pep Guardiola ‘put all lights on green’ to get the move done.
A condition from Sandler to join Manchester City is that he’s considered part of that club, rather than the wider City Football Group.
For PEC it’s a record transfer and they’ve also negotiated a percentage of any future sale.
Other Dutch clubs had been interested in Sandler, but weren’t able to compete with the finances and lure of Manchester City.
Sandler is due to fly back to the Netherlands today, after a whirlwind few days for the youngster.
