Manchester City chief Txiki Begiristain is said to have a ‘special fixation’ with Real Sociedad star Mikel Oyarzabal as they eye up another move for the Spaniard.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who say the Manchester City supremo values the ‘quality and character’ of the Sociedad forward.
City have long been credited with an interest in Oyarzabal and were believed to be pushing for a move over the last two years.
They were particularly keen back in 2019 when it appeared Leroy Sane would be going to Bayern Munich, but his injury that year ruined those plans.
He was linked again last summer when Sané eventually made the move to Munich, but Manchester City ended up signing Ferran Torres from Valencia, largely because he was available on the cheap.
Oyarzabal has been linked again this year, with City reported to be looking to refresh the squad and move the likes of Raheem Sterling and Riyad Mahrez on.
A report last week stated they will ‘return to the charge’ for the forward, and Mundo back that up, stating Begiristain ‘has a special fixation on the quality and character of the charismatic Real attacker.’
They make no mention of a move or any attempts at this moment in time, but it seems the player isn’t focused on the rumours regardless.
“It’s the same as always; in the end, we know how this world of football works,” he said.
“There are many times when a lot of things come up; I’m calm, right now my head is only here, in Wednesday’s game”.
“I’m calm, and I want to continue growing as a footballer.”
